Sailing Through the Winter Solstice in Carroll Creek

Enjoy sailboats and donate to charity at Sailing Through Winter Solstice

If you’re yet to take part in this unique event, hurry up! It ends on Saturday, March 5th!

In its sixth edition this year, Sailing through Winter Solstice has been an annual Frederick event since 2016.

And this is truly an event with a difference, and with a noble cause.

Here’s the deal:

  • A number of innovatively decked (with decor, lights and what not) sailboats are displayed at Carroll Creek. This time, there are twenty five boats.
  • Get this: Each boat represents a different local charity.
  • You, as a participant, can vote for your favorite boat(s). Each vote requires a contribution of $1.
  • A part of your contributions goes towards the Color on the Creek’s project of installing flowers and water plants in the creek during spring and summer.
  • The bulk of the amount raised, however, goes to the local charities represented by the boats.

Here’s a Frederick News-Post report on the event.

Dates: Ends on Saturday, March 5th.

Just walk along Carroll Creek!

Even if you miss the Sailing Through Winter Solstice event, Carroll Creek Park by itself is worth a visit

From walking beautifully set paths amongst charming greenery, to sitting beside the creek and taking in the views, to meeting with our feathered friends (especially the ducks) – it’s a great way to spend a lazy afternoon.

Plus of course there are a few restaurants, bars and breweries along the park…for when you start feeling peckish.
