Go hiking along the Morgan Run Trail
Over 8 miles long, and stretching across the upper reaches of Liberty Lake, Morgan Run Trail is generally considered not very difficult to hike through.
There are a few steep stretches, but they’re short and unlikely to wear you out.
There’s a swimming hole and beaver dam at one of the eastern points along the route…the swimming hole may prove attractive and useful during the warmer months.
If you’re the solitary outdoorsy type, this is a trail you’ll relish as it tends to not be occupied…on the right day you’ll not encounter another soul for the entire hike.
The trail cuts through exquisitely forested areas, with several pine groves, and offers stunning views of the Lake. On the other hand, it’s very close to residential areas.
Best visited during spring, as the trees and undergrowth will be in full bloom.

Visit Piney Run Park
If visiting a well-maintained park, with heaps of activities from birdwatching to fishing, is more your thing than hiking a secluded trail, you should check out Piney Run Park in nearby Sykesville.
Centered around a lake (Piney Run Reservoir), the park is over 550 acres of fields, forests and open spaces, yielding opportunities for fishing, boating, mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing and so on.
It is a great spot for a family outing, with plenty of picnic tables, grills and playgrounds for children.
There’s a nature club that hosts educational events frequently. You may even find the odd enthusiast there just like that, ready to answer your nature questions!

Check out the Patapsco Valley State Park – McKeldin Area
A part of Patapsco Valley State Park, the McKeldin Area offers opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and disc golf.

If you do visit, make sure you carry more than one bag, as you’ll feel the inevitable urge to get your hands on all that fresh produce.

Visit Breezy Hill Farm
A family-run farm in operation since 2012, Breezy Hill Farm is home to a lot of farm animals (well, duh!) including chickens, peacocks, sheep and goats.
But their specialty is their alpacas. They have nearly 50 of them.
On your visit, you can learn a fair bit about alpacas as well as the other animals, pet the alpacas and maybe even feed them.
Plus they have a boutique selling all-natural alpaca yarn and yarn-based clothing and accessories.
